Special Feature: Zahner fabricates a student's artwork.

Hannah Lodwick, a Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) senior majoring in painting and art history, won the opportunity to have her sculptural concept, "Factum Through Topography" turned into reality by A. Zahner Company. Her work will be featured in the live auction at KCAI’s 2013 Art and Design Auction on Saturday, June 1st. It is the school’s largest fundraising event that benefits student scholarships.

In preparation for its debut, Lodwick recently stopped by the Zahner facility to review the fabrication progress based on her maquette (photo below). Zahner introduced Lodwick to a new medium whereby the canvas of materials is blue black stainless steel and bead blasted aluminum plate.

This is the fifth year for A. Zahner Company to sponsor the Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) competition. The biennial sculpture competition is open to all KCAI students. A panel of judges screened entries and selected finalists. Jurors included: Matthew Hufft, founder and creative director of Hufft Projects and Edwin Blue; Devan Case, principal of Pendulum Studio; Julie Bilyear, arts coordinator for the City of Overland Park; Katie Daily, director of the American Advertising Federation of Kansas City; and Kelly Dickens-Hoffman, a Kansas City artist.
