A. Zahner Company has been in business for over 100 years. The company was founded in 1897 after Andrew Zahner moved to Kansas City from Joplin, Missouri where he had another company called Eagle Cornice Works. Eagle Cornice Works provided custom architectural metal cornices to many of the advancing towns of southern Missouri and eastern Kansas.

Metal was experiencing its first United States renaissance in architecture at the end of the 19th Century. Galvanized steel was developed, aluminum was just invented, and stainless steel was just around the corner.

Since the beginning, the company has concentrated on producing custom architectural and ornamental metal work for the commercial industry. Moving from a regional operation to an international presence, Zahner has worked on many of the most fascinating architectural and sculptural projects utilizing metal as a major design material.

Today, metal is experiencing a new renaissance. Titanium, chemical vapor deposition, interference coloring and custom patinas are available to the designer. A. Zahner Company is again involved in the development and fabrication of these ‘new’ materials and processes for architectural use.

Current management is made up of fourth generation members of the Zahner family. The current CEO of the company, L. William Zahner, is the author of the book, "Architectural Metals: A Guide to Selection, Specification and Performance," published by John Wiley and Sons; NY, 1995. It is available through the publisher and on line at various bookstores.

The company is involved with the production of the SMACNA Architectural Sheet Metal Manual. Since its inception back in the 1960's, one of the Zahner management team has been actively involved in the production and editing of each edition.

The diversity of projects and the unique nature of our work really prevents us from putting together a catalog of products. No two projects are the same. Architects and artists challenge us with their ideas and we, in turn, challenge them. When they see what we are capable of producing, they begin to realize their work is no longer limited by the conventional means of fabrication.

Zahner utilizes digital definition technology to create solid three dimensional computer models of their work. Zahner transfers this technology to the shop floor; effectively marrying their highly regarded craftsmen with computer assisted manufacturing.

It is our goal to meet or exceed the expectations of our customers. We have an enlightened, well trained work force that both manufactures and installs the work we engineer. We treat our people with dignity and respect. They, in turn, understand the needs of our customer and accept the challenge of exceeding the customer's expectations.

The result is unsurpassed quality.
