McCoy Federal Building

Dr. A.H. McCoy Federal Building Modernization

Currently in the Design Assist phase, this multi-million dollar addition to the Mccoy Federal Building in Jackson, Mississippi will update the image of the building as well as its functional purposes. The building features a curving glass facade which wraps the entire vertical surface of the building. This facade floats from rows of painted aluminum panels, shown in the photos below. In the recent update of the plans, the building will also feature our Solanum™ Steel panels, which will wrap the entire bottom edge of the new building.

This is Zahner's first project with the architects at Schwartz & Silver, an architecture firm based in Boston. Zahner will engineer and produce the curving glass facade in addition to the various architectural metal surfaces. Completion of the project is targeted for late 2012, upon which the building is slated to receive LEED® Silver certification from the United States Green Building Council.

In the renderings above, the original building can be seen next to the addition. Because of new laws regarding the safety for public buildings and airports, security check-ins must now be performed in a separate building. The building will also improve various functionalities and accessibility, as well as marketability for the value of the property and those around it. It also is suggested that the building will improve the community interest by freshening the public image of the Federal courthouse and the downtown area.
