Z-1 Coating
Durable anti-fingerprinting coating
The Z-1 Coating was developed for Aluminum surfaces, and is in testing stages for surfaces such as Stainless and Bronze. There are currently very few ways to protect the matte surfaces from fingerprinting without sacrificing the matte surface itself.
Most bead-blasted surfaces made by other manufacturers easily fingerprint when touched with bare hands. This is because oil builds up in the fingers and transmits to the highly porous bare bead-blasted surface. We offer our durable anti-fingerprinting Z-1 coating to prevent these oils from building up in the metal. The coating lasts for a number of years depending on atmospheric conditions, and is an option for surfaces where contact with people is likely. If the metal is placed out of reach, it is unlikely that any oils would occur on the metal surface.

The result of this process is most comparable to the aluminum products manufactured by Apple in California. We produced several exteriors and various interiors for Apple since they began opening stores in 2001. The above store was the first project produced using Zahner GB-60™ in 2005 for "The Grove" location in Los Angeles, California. The exterior is a GB-60™ Stainless steel rain-screen system with architects Bohlin Cywinski Jackson.

When viewed from under a microscope, the metal literally looks like glass beads. This is actually the impression left by the beads into the metal itself.
