Projects with Zahner often come about as the result of placing limitless possibility in the hands of a design team. One challenge is to create a building that not only reflects the spirit of its community, but also redefines the space and its surroundings.Situated on Los Angeles’ famous Miracle Mile, the newly renovated Petersen Automotive Museum has achieved a great feat of branding while creating open spaces which invite community engagement. The design encased the building in a red-painted corrugated aluminum wall system. This red rainscreen facade acts as the backdrop for a series of stainless steel structural ribbons. These were design-engineered, manufactured, and installed by Zahner.Designed by KPF Associates and working under Matt Construction in Los Angeles, Zahner started the design work under a Design Assist contract. The designers at Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) worked with Zahner over a decade ago on the IBM Headquarters, and after a recent visit to the Zahner HQ, were inspired by the possibilities.
